Sir Arthur Vernon was an early Master of Arts from Cambridge University. Born about 1482 and died 15th August 1517, he was the fifth son of Sir Henry Vernon who was guardian to Prince Arthur eldest son of Henry VII. The bust of him on the west wall is a form of monument commonly used on the continent but not often seen in England. Sir Arthur bequeathed 30shillings for the memorials and one penny and one loaf for everyone who came to his funeral mass. He was rector of Whitchurch, Salop. There is also a fine brass of him in the floor of the Golden Chapel.
