When the A41 bye-pass built the sites of Tong Castle and Tong Church become split from each other. For many years the main entrance to Tong Castle had been through the field next to the church and like many stately homes the church would have seen as part of the lord of the manor’s domain.

The church depended primarily upon the fortunes of the owners of the castle.

The picture is taken from the sale catalogue of 1855 when the Duke of Kingston sold Tong to the Earl of Bradford.
